Course Overview
Semester 1
In Semester one the emphasis is on learning the language and develop students skill of writing and speaking in Tongan relatively well. The Internal assessment that students will focus on is producing an interaction (AS92036) and communication (AS 92037) in Lea Faka-Tonga in relation to a cultural context. In interaction, students are expected to use unrehearsed exchanges, a range of language and interactive strategies to enhance interaction. In communication, breadth of vocabulary, the use of more complex language instead of simple sentences, using present, past and future tenses, sharing and justifying information and ideas are important. There are two external standards (AS 92038 & 92039).
At the end of Semester 1, students can opt to take different subjects in Semester 2. However, if students opt to continue with Tongan, they are allowed to continue with their language learning. But for those who will move, they can still do the externals, provided they return in Term 4 to attend the Revision sessions for the external exams.
