Level 1 English 101

Course Description

This course is comprised predominantly of internal assessments.  It comprises of a range of achievement standards that will give you L1 Literacy.  This is a full-year course. Students will be assessed on their understanding of written and visual and/or oral language.  Students will develop their ability to read, write and communicate.  Literacy in English gives students access to the understanding, knowledge and skills they need to participate fully in the social, cultural, political, and economic life of New Zealand and the wider world.



Course Overview

Semester 1
Students begin the year by being able to use their creativity. They will complete a piece of creative writing and also a visual text. Also in the first half of the year students will begin their work on a serious of personal responses to texts studied. This work will continue throughout the rest of the year.

Semester 2
In the second half of the year students will read and view a number of texts on a set topic. They will also study a film and complete their personal responses . As this course is internally assessed students will continues with their work for internal assessment right through to the end of the year.

Recommended Prior Learning

Successful completion of the Year 10 English course. 

Pathway

This course is mainly for students who would rather have their assessments done internally. It leads onto the internally assessed courses available at Level 2 in the following years.
