Level 3 Lea Faka-Tonga

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs Langi.

In this course students are expected to use Tongan language to express and justify their own ideas and opinions and to support and challenge those of others. They are able to use and identify language and cultural forms that guide interpretation and enable them to respond critically to texts. The skills of reading, speaking, writing, and listening to extended texts will also be taught and encouraged. A total of 5 standards will be offered, of which 3 will be assessed internally and 2 will be assessed externally.  This course will lead to Tertiary Levels or the world of work.

Course Overview

Semester 1
In Semester one the emphasis is on producing a speech and two pieces of writing (in different text type) in a structured way. Students are expected to respond critically to stimulus material in their speech and in their writings. Students can also support and challenge the ideas and views of others and provide evidence to support their ideas.

Semester 2
In Semester two, the emphasis is on Interaction and preparation for the external examinations. The Interaction standard is a portfolio and students will submit two interactions on two different topics in which they will express and respond to ideas and opinions and communicate appropriately in different situations. Interaction strategies will be used to sustain interaction. Skills of Reading, listening, making notes from listening texts, writing winning answers will be emphasized in preparation for the External exams.

Recommended Prior Learning

Completion of L1 / L2 Tongan or having a prior knowledge of Tongan

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

1 exercise book, pens (black, blue, red), Tongan dictionary

Pathway

Students will either take up training in Tertiary Institutes or enter the World of work.
