Level 2 & 3 Drama

Course Description

This course runs for one year is a composite class mixing both year 12 and 13 students working towards their own relevant assessments within the one class.  Students will work towards preparation for the NCEA Level 2 and/or 3 DRA and Tertiary Studies. Where possible we will be doing units of work which integrates 2 or more unit standards. You will learn skills in creating, interpreting, speaking, reading, designing stage, sets. Organizing productions and various performance skills. Technology units available for sound, lightning, costuming and props. Preparing students for the pathway in Creative industries.

Students will upgrade their application of acting skills through developing their improvisation, physical interpretation and ability to follow scripted and directorial instructions. Students will learn discipline and control over use of drama techniques (voice, body, movement and space) as well as develop their drama literacy.

Course Overview

Semester 1
Students will have an opportunity to work on learning roles, reading and interpreting scripts.
Students will have the opportunity to audition for roles in a significant play to have an opportunity to perform to a live audience on stage.
Students have the opportunity to explore units where they can learn drama technologies i.e
lighting, sound, costumes, stage managing and prop design, collecting and processing.

Semester 2
Students with continue working on Drama Knowledge and Drama studies in a range of genres namely:
Script writing, Devising (writing and creating their own pieces), exploring drama features

Recommended Prior Learning

To complete a Level 1 Drama NCEA course or at least one of the junior year levels. 

Have an interest and be confidence in performances to a live audience.

Committed to the expectations and requirements for the course.

Able to collaborate with a group.



Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

Pens, pencils, erasers, sticky notes (to annotate scripts), glue stick, flip files, B5 writing book to take notes.

Fundraising towards costumes and resource props

$50 per year (TOWARDS TRANSPORT COSTS) i.e shows and competitions where applicable

Costs towards costumes where applicable.
