Level 2 English for Trades
Course Description
This Unit Standards based course has been designed to develop important communication skills that are vital for students preparing to transition into the work place. Developing skills where students have the opportunity to grow confidence in using their interpersonal communication skills places them at a distinct advantage when preparing for the workplace. This is an internally assessed course and is targeted to students enrolled in 201CON and 201AUT. Credits gained in this course will contribute towards NCEA L2.
Course Overview
Semester 1
This course is designed to help students develop effective communication skills for the work place. The course is for students in the Trades subjects as much of the work done in the course is linked to the students' Trades studies. Students start the course by researching a career pathway of interest. They also have to write a report and complete their CV.
Semester 2
In the second half of the year students have the opportunity to develop their skills in communicating with others and working in a group or team situation. These are skills that are vital in the workplace and students are given a number of situations in which to develop their skills.

Recommended Prior Learning
Level 1 NCEA English. Students should have gained their Level 1 Literacy.
Pathway
This course is designed for students in the Trades Academy. The skills developed at Level 2 are further built on Level 3 and are mainly concerned with communication in the workplace.
