Level 3 Chemistry

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr Vea.

Students will be doing 3 internal standards and 1 external standard. It is also possible to do 2 external standards if requested by students.

Students will be:

  • Using information from their own research and practical investigations to write a report on similarities and differences of two Redox processes.
  • Using information from spectroscopic data to fully discuss and identify the identity of an organic compound. (they are required to fully discuss information from IR spectroscopy, 13C NMR Spectra and Mass Spectrometry)
  • Reporting on a research based on a chemical process in the world around us. In particular, discussing the advantages/disadvantages and its effects on the environment.

Course Overview

Semester 1
The main focus for semester 1 is to complete all the three internal assessments. There is one research assignment, one practical and one involves interpreting a secondary data.

Semester 2
The main focus for this semester is to prepare students for the external standard. We are offering only one external standard in this course but we can offer two if requested by students.

Recommended Prior Learning

It is strongly recommended that students have completed the Level 2 Chemistry course.

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

Exercise book, pen, pencil, ruler etc.
