Level 3 Media Studies

Course Description

Media studies at level three will develop students thinking and understanding of how the media affects the audience nationally and internationally. Media Studies will give students the necessary skills of how to navigate the media landscape to make informed decisions on what they consume.

Throughout the year they will be required to analyse the impact the media has on Pasifika and New Zealand identities through their representation assessment. They will have an international lense for the external exam which focuses on genre and its relationship to the audience.

Students production skills will be developed through writing, planning, designing and producing a short film. Here they will learn how to collaborate with others and take responsibility for a significant role in their production team. They will develop practical skills such as filming, editing, resource and time management

Students will be creating products such as essays and films to a standard where it can be added to an online website. This will serve students as a portfolio to enter into tertiary or industry study.
