Level 3 Gagana Samoa
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Ms Lemalu.
In this course students are expected to use Samoan language to express and justify their own ideas and opinions and to support and challenge those of others. They are able to use and identify language and cultural forms that guide interpretation and enable them to respond critically to texts. A total of 5 standards will be offered, of which 3 will be assessed internally and 2 will be assessed externally. This course will lead to Tertiary Levels.
Course Overview
Semester 1
In Semester one the emphasis is on producing a speech, and two pieces of writing (in different text type) in a structured way. Students are expected to respond critically to stimulus material in their speech and in their writings. Students can also support and challenge the ideas and views of others.
Semester 2
In Semester two, the emphasis is on Interaction and preparation for the external examinations. The Interaction standard is a portfolio and students will submit two interactions on two different topics. Students will express and respond to ideas and opinions and communicate appropriately in different situations in their interaction. Interaction strategies will be used to sustain interaction. Skills of Reading, listening, making notes from listening texts, writing winning answers will be emphasized.
Recommended Prior Learning
- Studying Samoan in Year 11 or 12.
- Have prior knowledge of the language
