Level 2 History

Course Description

History at Level 2 course explores how historians engage in finding out about the past. History explores how and why change has occurred in countries and nations over time. An appreciation of the past allows a more thorough understanding of the present and provides lifelong interest and pleasure. 

Perspectives – This study involves students learning about different perspectives of people about events in the past.

This pathway provides students with knowledge and skills that are relevant for a wide range of occupations such as law, journalism, the media, politics, human resources, research, nursing, primary, secondary and tertiary teaching, medicine, management and many other careers.

Themes studied include:

Protest in the 20th Century – This study examines the methods of peaceful protest as a solution to national or international disagreements. It focuses on events of significance to New Zealanders including Bastion Point, Maori land issues, the Maori Land March, apartheid South Africa, the 1981 Springbok Tour; Russian Revolution, Holocaust and nuclear testing in the Pacific.

Recommended Prior Learning

Studied the subject at Year 11 and approval by HOD. Students who have not studied History before may take Year 12 History with approval of the HOD.
