Course Description

This course is comprised of internal and external achievement standards.  It is a full year course.  Students will develop reading and writing skills that will develop the capacity to critically analyse a range of text(s).  This course sets students up for further education because it thoroughly covers the written and visual/oral strands of English.  This course will allow students to gain 14 credits they require for University Entrance.  Literacy in English gives students access to the understanding, knowledge, and skills they need to participate fully in the social, cultural, political, and economic life of New Zealand and the wider world.

Course Overview

Semester 1
Students will spend the first half of the year completing the internal assessment requirements for this course. The year starts with a film study. Students also complete one piece of writing towards their writing portfolio. The last part of the semester is spent looking at four texts.

Semester 2
The second semester students will complete their writing portfolio and also they will put together an oral presentation . The rest of the semester is spent preparing for the external exam at the end of the year.

Recommended Prior Learning

200English. Students should have gained at least 14 Credits in Level 2 English with at least one pass coming from an external standard.

Pathway

This course contributes towards students gaining their University Entrance . Students who have the ability may also enter the Scholarship examination. This course would help support students into a wide range of career pathways in a range of industries and also into tertiary study including at degree level.
