Level 3 Home Economics (Health)

Course Description

This course follows the NCEA Level 3 guidelines. This course builds strongly on from level 2 Health. This course has a high academic focus and requires students to understand problems affecting the well-being of New Zealand society. Students need to use strategies to improve the well-being of New Zealand society. This course will support students looking for a career in the service or social and community pathways or looking to study at tertiary level. It has university approval.

Specific skills learned  

Depression is a common health problem in New Zealand, look at the range of treatments used to treat sufferers, which one do you think is most effective?

You will look and data and evidence to analyse a New Zealand health issue (such as P use, binge drinking), give reasons as to why this happens and offer strategies to lead to change.

You will look at an ethical issue in New Zealand (such as euthanasia, abortion) present both sides of the argument, using evidence and make a judgement based on this evidence.

10 credits in Level 2 Health or English
