Level 3 Hospitality

Course Description

This course is especially designed to prepare you for a career in the hospitality industry. You will add to your knowledge and skills gained in Hospitality in the Level 2 course, and learn advanced food safety, nutrition and barista skills, as well prepare and present a variety of dishes including pasta and complex sandwiches. Assessments are both practical and written. As with the Level 1 and 2 courses, you will continue to gain experience working with real customers, through preparing food for school functions and for the school café. Students must also be prepared to do a day of work experince each week. This is organised by the school.

Recommended Prior Learning

Entry: US 167 (food safety) gained in Year 12. Students without US167 must obtain Head of Learning approval for admission to the course

Hospitality is one of the country’s fastest growing service sectors and it has a huge appetite for talented, energetic people.
This course can help students gain essential skills that will open the door to an enjoyable career or further study at tertiary level to be able to enter in to New Zealand’s exciting hospitality industry, and beyond.
Students might choose to become a sought-after chef at one of New Zealand’s many great restaurants and cafés, a catering expert for all kinds of corporate, private and public functions and events, or a top food and beverage manager and many other opportunities.
This course offers students a range of training at a high level to gain Unit Standards and prepare for that great hospitality career that can take them around the country and the world.
